Mark Joseph Steakhouse

The Best Steak in Manhattan

Many say the best chop in the city is the 40 oz. Porterhouse at Brooklyn’s Peter Luger. But if you don’t want to cross the bridge to get there, its twin at Mark Joseph Steakhouse is a close second, served sizzling in its own juices.

The co-owner spent some time working at Luger’s Long Island location before he opened the Financial District institution in 2001. Crispy battered onion rings and creamed spinach will be familiar to Luger fans, but a solid selection of seafood and robust side dishes give this place a more extensive menu. Generally the portions are huge, so it’s a good idea to order a few dishes for the table to share. Don’t miss the Sizzling Canadian Bacon. It’s available as an appetizer, but we love it as a side.

Mark Joseph is convenient for clients coming from the Wall Street area, but others may have difficulty finding the place. Make sure your guests have good directions for taxi drivers or Uber. After dinner, it can be nice to walk through the quiet neighborhood’s cobblestone streets. The newly renovated South Street Seaport is nearby and has wonderful waterfront views of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.

Menu Highlights:
Onion Rings, Sizzling Canadian Bacon, 40 oz. Porterhouse, and Faust Cabernet Sauvignon.
