French Fine Dining with Island Flair
It’s impossible to talk about this restaurant with introducing its chef, who has poured all of his life experience into Chef Mavro.
George Mavrothalassitis brought his traditional French fine-dining background to Honolulu 27 years ago and he immediately fell in love with the multi-ethnic flavors of the Island. While he’s considered one of the fathers of Hawaiian regional cuisine, his food is so much more than that.
The James Beard Award-winning chef constructs each of his dishes like an artist, playing with the color and texture of his ingredients to produce a truly sensational experience. While you can order a la carte, the more expensive six-course tasting menu with wine pairings really showcases his expertise in subtle flavors and dramatic presentations. As with most tasting menus though, make sure to leave plenty of time for dinner. While the service is excellent, it’s not uncommon for the meal to last over three hours.
While the decor is certainly upscale, don’t expect beachfront views from this place. Still, the food is so beautiful it will command all your attention.
